In the Faculty of Sciences, we educate and train our students to have a multifaceted take on natural phenomena from both physical and life perspectives, and to harness their unique abilities. Our main goal is for students to have an integrated understanding of the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Science and Mathematics, and to take a multifaceted approach to natural phenomena from both physical and life perspectives. People engaged in the physical sciences need to recognize the significance of the natural sciences within society and have the ability to explain their own research to society. In their fields of specialization, students need to know theory and have a mastery of experimental methodology so they can explore their own research topics, and also need to be able to make research proposals, be expressive in pronouncing their findings on the international stage, and be able to communicate easily with researchers in other fields. In the Division of Sciences, we build this type of foundation in coordination with the common core education, and train students to be able to develop original research rooted a scholarly background in their field of specialization.

Department of Materials Science

TRAINING STUDENTS TO DEVELOP THE TECHNOLOGIES OF THE FUTURE BASED ON A FUNDAMENTAL UNDERSTANDING OF TODAY'S LEADING SCIENTIFIC TECHNOLOGY.

Within the Department of Materials Science, students will gain an understanding of the structure, properties, and reactions of materials on the electronic and atomic levels based on the fundamental principles of the natural sciences. Our students will also learn the basics of materials science that enable the command of these elements. These fundamentals lead to studies in Material Synthesis, Simulation Science and Instrumentation Science, and also to today's leading scientific technologies in the fields of nanoscience, new energy development, and advanced medicine.

Department of Life and Environmental Science

LIFE'S FUNCTIONS,THE ENVIRONMENT,AND BIOLOGICAL RESOURCES — TRAINING FRONT-RUNNERS TO EXCEL IN THE REALM OF BIOTECHNOLOGY.

The Department of Life and Environmental Science provides systematic teaching to students on the genetic, cellular and individual levels in regard to the value and diversity of life, as exhibited by animals, plants and microorganisms and the mechanisms of their response and adaptation to changes in the internal and external environment. The department trains students to use scientific knowledge and laboratory techniques learned to become researchers and entrepreneurs that can build safe and productive global environments, and to lead the life sciences in areas that will be important to successive generations in the fields of organ regenerative research, functional food development, and maintenance of the biosphere among others.

Department of Medical Life Science

TRAINING EXPERTS IN BIO-SCIENCES FOR THE DEMANDS OF THE 21ST CENTURY.

By studying life phenomena at the molecular, cellular and organismal levels, the Department of Medical Life Science will enable students to engage in original research throughout a wide range of fields within the life sciences. The chief feature of the program is a combined educational approach that involves both medical and biophysical sciences, in which students study the properties and pathologies of living organisms as well as the structure and function of biological tissue. The program trains students to become pioneering researchers and entrepreneurs who may develop new fields within the entire scope of medical and biological science.
